Portloe is one of Cornwall's most perfectly preserved and unspoilt fishing villages — a tiny cove of just 142 people on the Roseland Peninsula. There are no gift shops, no amusements — just the boats, the cliff path and the Lugger Inn, one of Cornwall's most celebrated coastal pubs. The surrounding coastal path offers some of the finest clifftop walking on the peninsula.
The extraordinary St Just-in-Roseland Church, set in a subtropical garden beside a tidal creek (12 miles north), is considered one of the most beautiful churchyard settings in England. The Nare Hotel, a short walk from the village, is one of Cornwall's finest country house hotels.
